NEW DELHI:One year in office and the Narendra Modi government’s popularity is on the upswing, according to a survey conducted by RSS mouthpieces Organiser and Panchjanya. A majority of Indians still believe in a positive environment to bring the all-round development Modi has promised. Further, a majority of those polled believe that the Swachh Bharat Mission is the best initiative, followed by Pradhanmantri Jan Dhan Yojna.

To get accurate results, the sample size of the survey conducted by Lok Sarthi Foundation sought the opinions of 5,142 people across the country from rural and urban areas and with different socio-economic backgrounds and age groups.

The findings of the survey will cheer up the Modi-led government as 55.6 per cent believe it is doing a good job, 18.5 per cent said in the negative while 25.9 per cent termed the government’s performance as average. The survey asked a pointed question on whether the economic situation in the last one year has changed; 62.3 per cent said yes, 28.4 per cent said no and 9.3 per cent did not have an opinion on it. 77.4 per cent believed that Modi’s Make In India is a good initiative to revive the country’s manufacturing sector.

The survey shows that 85.5 per cent said that the Modi government brought positive change in government foreign policy, whereas 8.1 per cent said no and 6.4 per cent had no opinion. About 60 per cent of respondents believe that appropriate steps have been taken to tackle inflation, while 29 percent replied in the negative.

The prime minister enjoys high popularity ratings: 55 per cent in urban India, 54 per cent in northern India and 51 per cent in western India feel that Modi is the best leader to lead the nation. The RSS magazine also gives a wake up call to the government noting that it failed to convey the right message to the people on the Land Acquisition Bill and that more respondents agreed with the Opposition on it. It pointed out that the government needs to do more to popularise the Namami Gange Mission.
