Mysuru gets Sachin on Dasara

BENGALURU:  Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is likely to inaugurate the Dasara festivities in Mysuru. The festivities, which start from October 1, will be a 11-day event and not low-key affair like in 2015.

The festival dates and shortlisting of six names for the Dasara inauguration were discussed during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah last week.

Dasara procession will be held on October 11 in accordance with the Hindu calendar as Vijayadashami falls on that day.

Apart from Tendulkar, those shortlisted to inaugurate the Dasara festivities include litterateur S L Bhyrappa, Suttur mutt seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamy, freedom fighter HS Doresw-amy and poets KS Nissar Ahmed and Chennaveera Kanavi.
