THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Matsyafed outlet opposite Public Library in Palayam is selling an assortment of fishes, called ‘The Feast of Seven Fishes’ for Christmas.

The basket contains seven locally available fish varieties - anchovy, seer fish, tuna, prawns, mackerel and sea bass. The basket is priced at Rs 1,000 and bigger basket costs Rs 1,500.

The seven fish kit is similar to the Italian-American Catholic tradition of ‘Feast of seven fishes’ where local fish varieties are consumed during Christmas. The tradition was started to reduce meat consumption during Christmas.

The kit contains mostly fish caught using hook and line locally and is said to be free from chemicals. Packing is done at the base station of Matsyafed at Shakthikulangara in Kollam.

The kits can be booked in advance at 9526041245. Minister for fisheries J Mercykutty Amma inaugurated the sale of kits in on Thursday. The kits are available in various Matsyafed outlets across the state.
