EXPLAINED: Why Kerala's state bus service employees are on strike

In October, the Pinarayi Vijayan government approved KSRTC employees' demand for a salary revision, but it was conditional and not on par with what was asked for. KSRTC's salary revision has reportedly been due for the last nine years, despite salaries of other government departments being regularly revised. KSRTC employees have been demanding a salary revision since 2016.
