Andhra Pradesh: Over 100 women workers taken ill following a gas leak in garment unit

A toxic gas leak at Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Anakapalle district, Andhra Pradesh on July 2 left over 100 women workers ill. The workers apparently complained of suffocation after inhaling the toxic gas around 6:45 pm. Immediately, they were evacuated and rushed to the hospital. At least five women are on ventilator support at the Anakapalle Area Hospital. The others are reportedly in stable condition. The accident took place at Seeds Intimate Apparel India Private Limited located at the Brandix India Apparel City. This is the second time a gas leak has been reported in the SEZ in 2022.
