Indonesia volcano: At least 14 dead following eruption of Mt Semeru, villages buried under hot ash

A huge cloud of hot ash engulfed villages in eastern Java on Dec 5th when Mt Semeru erupted. 14 people are known to have died and dozens were injured. Deep layers of ash have engulfed the area and rescue operations are currently underway.At least 57 people were injured in the eruption, of whom 41 suffered burns and were hospitalised. The eruption was accompanied by a thunderstorm and rain, which pushed lava and smouldering debris.
