VIJAYAWADA: The electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC) at Renigunta in Chittoor district is set to become a reality soon with the Central government giving its seal of approval to the project.
The EMC, coming up at an estimated cost of `104 crore, will generate more than 50,000 jobs, directly or indirectly. The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had announced in the year 2012 its plan to set up such greenfield clusters across India with grant-in-aid.
In 2015, the first exclusive mobile and electronic manufacturing cluster was announced in Andhra Pradesh and for this a special purpose vehicle (SPV) by the name Sri Venkateswara Mobiles and Electronics Manufacturing Hub Private Limited was formed. The foundation stone for the EMC was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November, 2015.
The SPV had applied for final approval of the project with the three biggest Indian mobiles manufacturers – Celkon Impex Private Limited, United Tele Links Private Limited (KARBON) and Sojo International Private Limited (LAVA) - coming to establish their units.
