VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said Dr Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna Memorial Music College will be set up at Sankaraguptam village in East Godavari district, the birthplace of the legendary Carnatic musician. The village will be developed as a hub of classical music and a major tourist attraction.
Participating in the 87th birth anniversary celebrations of Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna here on Thursday, the Chief Minister underscored the need for promoting music and culture. A three-member committee with Balamuralikrishna’s son Abhiram, Government Communication Advisor Parakala Prabhakar and Ghazal Srinivas was set up to design and develop Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna
Memorial at Sankaraguptam.
As part of measures to promote music and culture in capital region Amaravati, Guntur Music College was named after Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna. The CM announced a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh for the best singer. Balamuralikrishna birthday will be celebrated as the State festival every year.
