Cambodian Prince injured, wife killed in accident

As per reports, the Prince's wife succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prince Norodom Ranariddh's wife Ouk Phalla was killed on Sunday in a road accident in Sihanoukville province, police said.

"The prince's wife died due to severe injuries," Xinhua news agency quoted a police officer as saying.

He added that the 74-year-old prince was airlifted to a hospital in Phnom Penh for medical treatment.

The accident took place at 9 a.m. in Prey Nop district when a taxi coming from the opposite direction crashed into the prince's car. Five passengers in the taxi were also injured.

Prince Ranariddh is also the President of the Supreme Privy Advisory Council to King Norodom Sihamoni, his half-brother.

The prince was co-Prime Minister from 1993 to 1997 and president of the National Assembly from 1998 to 2006.
