LONDON: Singer George Michael has been offered to be a judge on the American version of reality show ‘X Factor’ in a deal worth more than $1.5 million.
The 47-year-old, who was jailed for drug driving earlier this year, will join the talent show mogul Simon Cowell and singer Cheryl Cole on the judges panel in the debut series of the show in US, reports thesun.co.uk.
"George is going to take the job. It's an amazing opportunity to get back in the limelight and reverse his recent bad spell. Simon knows that Americans love him. He is as big in the US as he is over here. He is a true star and has the wit and experience for the job. It's the perfect platform to resurrect his career," said a source.
Cowell visited the singer at his home in November to discuss the role. However, if Michael plans to go ahead with the deal, he would have to apply for a US work permit, which might take long to obtain, thanks to his jail sentence.
Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and Noel Gallagher have also received calls about a judging role.
A source said: "Simon is determined to have a panel of amazing judges. The show has to go off with a bang especially as Aerosmith frontman Steve Tyler will be on 'American Idol'."
