For, her feature film debut, ‘Liar’s Dice,’ has just been nominated for the Oscars. ‘’Representing India at the Oscars...I feel honoured,’’ she says. ‘’What thrills me most is the excitement of others, including the media and the film fraternity.”

‘Liar’s Dice’ had been making headlines from the day of its premiere. Geethu says she wasn’t quite expecting the Oscar ticket as the competition was really tough. The film, which has to its credit five international awards, had fetched for Rajeev Ravi the best cinematography award and gifted the best actress award to Geetanjali Thapa at the 61st National Film Awards. Since its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, ‘Liar’s Dice’ has been doing the rounds at all major fetes. “I think the number must have crossed 35 by now. We stopped counting after 20,” she says.

“The film is about the heroine’s  eventful journey through the chilly mountain terrain along with her 3-year-old kid and pet goat,” says Geethu. The film  is set in Chitkul, the last and highest village in the valley located on the Indo-Tibetan border. “It’s a small mountain community speaking a particular dialect. It was the first time a film was being shot there,” she says. Geethu says the acceptance her film got at various global venues points to the fact that it’s possible for small-scale films to get a platform. “Soon after Sundance, we could sell the film internationally,” she says.
