BENGALURU: Aspirants for post-graduate medical seats, for which the admission process has started, have reason to cheer. At least 120 more seats will be added at select government-run medical colleges in the state and an official communication in this regard is expected from the Medical Council of India (MCI) soon.
Medical Education department director Dr Sachidanand said, “We have already received initial communication from MCI regarding availability of 38 more seats at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) and three seats at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubballi. Further communication is expected by the month-end on the availability of some more seats at a few other colleges.”
The Department had sought enhancement/increase of PG medical seats at the government medical colleges where clinical courses are available.
Officials said that the increase in number of seats is expected at Mysore Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Mysuru, Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Ballari, Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS), Belagavi, Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Shivamogga and Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Hassan.
The enhancement of seats follows the Union government’s announcement on increasing the seats in the budget.
Every year, the number of aspirants in the state is at least five times more than the seats available.
