CHENNAI: Minister for Personnel and Administrative Reforms, N Veerasamy, on Tuesday announced that IAS coaching centres would be established in three Universities - Bharathiyar Agricultural University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and the Madurai Kamaraj University.
“The State government has decided to extend Rs 10 lakh each to the three universities for starting coaching centres and the government has already consulted the Vice Chancellors of these universities as well as the IAS officers serving in those areas,” the Minister told the State Assembly.
Responding to the query of M Appavu (DMK) in this regard, the Minister said coaching courses for civil services like IAS and IPS were started in the year 2000 and coaching was being provided to 200 persons per year through the Anna Institute of Management in Anna Nagar. After the selection of many candidates for civil services last year, the number of applicants had increased manifold, he said, adding that 6,106 candidates had applied for the courses this year.
