Express News Service

CHENNAI: Stella Maris College is organising the third edition of Stella Maris College Parliamentary Debate (SMCPD – III). The three-day tournament, beginning from January 24, will start with a British Parliamentary debate workshop giving a chance to the participants to brush up their debating skills. With an attendee list of 64 teams from over 20 colleges across India — including VIT, IIT-Bombay, NALSAR University of Law and NLU-Delhi, SMCPD – III will be the biggest inter-collegiate debate tournament in Chennai, as it has been for the last two years. SMCPD also spearheads the use of a unique debating format called the British Parliamentary format, which gives debaters options like on-the-spot motions and extensive rebutting. The jury this year comprises Sparshith Sampath, Parthasarathi Sharma and Anil Sebastian Pulickel, all of whom have made waves on the international debating front.
