CHENNAI: The Narcotics Control Bureau officials have seized 3.1 kg of cocaine worth `10 crore in illicit drug market at Chennai Central Railway Station and arrested a person in the connection.

The high-end narcotic substance was allegedly recovered from the accused backpack, who tried to smuggle it from Chennai to Delhi allegedly at the behest of the South American cocaine cartel.

The accused has been identified as Vishal (27), a native of Mizoram. He was hired by an African nation to deliver the contraband to a party in New Delhi. NCB sleuths nabbed Vishal minutes before boarding Tamil Nadu Express.

A Burno, the zonal director, NCB, told Express that Vishal was working as a labourer in Sriperumbudur for past eight months. “To deliver the package, the accused was paid `5,000” he said.
