HYDERABAD: A 72-year-old person was arrested today for allegedly killing his son a few days back. The only fault of the 29- year-old victim was that he wanted to marry a girl he loved against the wishes of his father. The victim, Pande Shripad Ravi Prakash, was hit by a ‘dumble’ used for exercise a couple of weeks ago. He died while undergoing treatment three days back.
Shripad Ravi Prakash was an employee of the Marathi edition of a leading news channel in the city. A resident of Vanasthalipuram, he fell in love with a colleague and planned to marry her. Shripad Ravi Prakash’s father, 72-year-old Pande Ravi Prakash Balkrishna, however, disapproved of the former’s marriage with the girl of his choice. A retired private employee from Aurangabad in Maharastra, Balkrishna used to visit his son frequently.
“Shripad Ravi Prakash told his father about his plan to marry his colleague.
Balkrishna, however, disapproved of his son’s choice and insisted that the latter marry a girl of his choice,’’ Vanasthalipuram police inspector T Madhu Mohan said.
The only reason for Balkrishna to disapprove of his son’s choice of a life partner was that she belonged to another caste, police said.
Shripad Ravi Prakash tried to convince his father but his efforts went in vain. As a result, he decided to go against his father’s wishes and decided to marry his colleague this month, Madhu Mohan said. On the night of Oct 25, Shripad Ravi Prakash returned home after performing night duty and reportedly got into an argument with his father once again over his plans for marriage. Infuriated over his son’s adamant attitude, Balkrishna hit him with a dumble while he was in deep slumber.
Balkrishna straightaway went to the Vanasthalipuram police station and informed the police. Shripad Ravi Prakash, who slipped into coma, was shifted to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment on November 5. Three days after his son’s death, Balkrishna surrendered before the Vanasthalipuram police today.
