AirAsia India flight diverted to Hyderabad after smoke warning

The aircraft left for Bengaluru after a thorough inspection confirmed the warning to be 'spurious', the statement added.

HYDERABAD: A Bengaluru-bound AirAsia flight made an emergency landing at RGI Airport on Saturday night, after it experienced a cargo smoke warning.

The aircraft with 112 passengers on board resumed its travel after a thorough inspection that confirmed the warning to be spurious. Flight no I5 1629 from Amritsar to Bengaluru, took off from Amritsar at 7:23 pm, with 112 passengers on board. While in air, the pilot detected smoke in the cargo and alerted the near Air Traffic Control at RGIA.

After the ATC declared a local stand-by in emergency, the flight safely landed at 10 pm. The passengers were rushed to safety after the landing. After thorough inspection of the engines, it departed from the airport around two hours later.

“AirAsia flight from Amritsar to Bengaluru experienced a cargo smoke warning. As a result the crew elected to divert to Hyderabad, the nearest airport as per laid down procedures. The aircraft was allowed to depart from Hyderabad to Bengaluru after a thorough inspection that confirmed the warning to be spurious,” an AirAsia spokesperson said.
