Gracefully release your fatigue with this highly therapeutic asana. Supta Baddha Konasana is a reclined-bound angle posture. This asana is highly therapeutic and is considered as a relaxing asana. This asana releases, repairs, relaxes and restores the functioning of the systems in the body. For maximum benefits, it is advisable to practice by using props such as cushions and bolsters.

Benefits: Relieves high and low blood pressure, back pain, indigestion, menstrual problems, soothes the heart and abdominal organs, relieves stress and depression.

Instructions: Lie down on your back by supporting your head and spine on soft cushions as shown in the picture. Bend your knees and bring the soles of your feet together in front of your perineum. Gently press the soles, and extend your knees to the sides and rest them on bolsters. Place your hands to the sides of your body and keep a mudra of your choice in your fingers. Make sure your spine and head are properly rested, keeping your head slightly raised. Broaden your chest and close your eyes. Stay steady for 1 to 5 minutes with focused even breathing.

To come out of the asana, draw your knees closer, remove the bolsters from the sides, and gently roll to a side. Breathe a few times before you sit up.

While in the asana, there is a natural tendency to push your knees towards the floor. It is not advisable to do it because you will be hurting yourself. If your hips and groins are tight, rest your knees on bolsters; this will have a relaxing effect on the whole body. Those practicing for the first time may have some discomfort for few days. With repetitive practice, and after few weeks, the hips and groins will become flexible and the practitioner will feel more comfortable.
