KOCHI: A monitoring committee, including representatives from the Motor Vehicles Department(MVD) and police, will be formed to ensure online and traditional taxi drivers at the Cochin International Airport Ltd(CIAL) at Nedumbassery will work on the basis of mutually agreed conditions. The decision was taken at a conciliatory meeting held at the district collectorate on Friday to resolve the standoff between the two groups over picking up passengers from the airport.

As per the mutual agreement, henceforth the online taxis will not canvass any passengers from the airport  while the traditional taxi operators at CIAL will not prevent the former from dropping off and picking up customers.“All issues in this regard will be monitored by a committee comprising CIAL, police and Labour Department officers, online taxis’ representatives and trade unions.

The meeting also observed  it is not the labourers but vested interests from outside who are creating the issues,” said T C Subramanian,  Kerala State Motor Labourers’ Union (TUCI) president.
A section of online taxi drivers, who stayed away from the meeting, accused the traditional taxi operators of violating the High Court order.
