COVID-19 HIGHLIGHTS | India witnesses highest single-day recovery of 29,557 patients

As many as 29,557 COVID-19 patients have recuperated in a 24-hour span till Thursday morning, the highest recorded in a day so far, taking the recovery rate to 63.18 per cent, the Union Health Ministry said.
The number of tests for detection of COVID-19 also crossed the 15-million mark as the number of cases surged to 12,38,635 on Thursday.
According to data updated at 8 am, total recoveries have climbed to 7,82,606 and exceeded the active cases of COVID-19 by 3,56,439 as on date.
Meanwhile, India's COVID-19 case tally crossed the 12 lakh mark on Thursday with highest single-day spike of 45,720 new cases and 1,129 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 12,38,635 including 4,26,167 active cases, 7,82,606 cured/discharged/migrated and 29,861 deaths, as per the Health Ministry data.

Covaxin Phase 1 human trials begin in Tamil Nadu
SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre started screening volunteers for the trials on Monday. An official confirmed that the trial started on Thursday with two volunteers being given doses of Covaxin.

The state on Thursday recorded 441 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike yet, taking the tally to 11,739, while the death toll climbed to 277 with eight more people succumbing to the disease, according to a medical bulletin by the state government.
Cipla all set to launch Favipiravir drug
Favipiravir, developed by CSIR will be launched at a cost-effective process, the company said in an official statement. "Given that DCGI has given restricted emergency use for Favipiravir in the country, Cipla is now all set to launch the product to help patients suffering from COVID-19," the statement said.
Minor patient sexually abused by another patient in Delhi
A 14-year-old girl, who was undergoing treatment at the Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre in south Delhi's Chhatarpur, was allegedly sexually assaulted by another coronavirus patient in the washroom, police said on Thursday.
Karnataka on Thursday recorded a biggest single-day surge of over 5,000 cases and 97 related fatalities, taking the total number of people who tested positive for the virus to 80,863, the health department said. The day also saw a record 2,071 patients getting discharged after recovery.
Record 1,078 new cases in Gujarat
With a highest single-day spike of 1,078 cases, the coronavirus case count in Gujarat crossed 52,000 on Thursday, the state health department said. While the number of cases reached 52,563, death toll due to the pandemic in the state rose to 2,257 with 28 patients dying since Wednesday evening, it said.

Andhra records 7,998 fresh cases
A staggering 7,998 fresh Covid-19 cases were added in a day in Andhra Pradesh, pushing the states overall tally to 72,711 on Thursday. Also, 61 new casualties were reported, taking the death toll to 884, according to the latest bulletin.
Akali MLA, son test positive
Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday, a health official said. His samples were taken on Tuesday after the Batala legislator complained of fever and fatigue, an official said.

Out of the 1,554, 842 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits followed by Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts with 132 and 96 cases respectively.
Death toll in Bihar crosses 200 mark
According to the state health department, the death toll has reached 208 with Patna and Bhagalpur reporting two fatalities each, and Buxar, Arwal, Katihar, Rohtas, Purnea and Saran one each.

Nine more test COVID-19 positive in UP's Muzaffarnagar
Nine more people, including two policemen, tested positive for coronavirus here on Wednesday, taking the total number of active cases in the district to 170, an official said. According to District Magistrate Selvakumari J, the reports of 230 samples were received on Wednesday, of which nine were found to be positive for coronavirus.
Record one-day rise of 3,218 in Pune
Pune district in Maharashtra reported the highest single-day increase of 3,218 coronavirus positive cases on Wednesday, that pushed its tally to 59,634, a health official said. The death toll reached 1,504 with 62 patients succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours, he said.
West Bengal sees highest single-day spike
The COVID-19 death toll in West Bengal mounted to 1,221 as it reported the worst daily spike of 39 fatalities on Wednesday, the health department said. The state also recorded 2,291 fresh infections, pushing the tally to 49,321, it said in a bulletin.
