VISAKHAPATNAM: In a major step, the Revenue department has started a training programme to 90 persons for completing the digitisation work of Field Measurement Book (FMB) across the district. In the present revenue records system, the government still follows the British-introduced state, district and taluk-level FMBs manually. The FMB is one of the most important revenue documents  revealing the owner of the property in the village. Every village has one FMB. However, all these years, the department  has been maintaining the FMB manually. There are many allegations and disputes about the changes in the FMBs.

Observing the need of the digitisation of the FMB, the government directed the collector to digitise all the FMBs. According to the directions, 90 employees have been selected to digitise 2,27,167 FMBs in the district. While interacting with the employees, who are undergoing a month-long programme, collector N Yuvaraj asked them to be  careful while digitisation the FMBs. Once information is uploaded, it is not  possible to correct the FMBs, he alerted the staff.

Joint collector N Nivas said that 233 FMBs had been missing in the district. The digitisation would be completed in a year, he added.
