VIJAYAWADA/KAKINADA : With just a day left for the Chalo Amavarati rally called by Kapu patriarch Mudragada Padamanabham, tension is building up not only in East Godavari district, but also Amaravati, the seat of the administration. With police denying permission for the rally, security personnel have been deployed all over sensitive areas in the state, particularly in Krishna, Guntur and the twin Godavari districts as there is a likelihood of Kapu activists trying to reach the secretariat from any direction they can. Police have restricted entry to villages around the secretariat to prevent demonstrations.
Director General of Police N Sambasiva Rao, speaking to journalists in Vijayawada said since the rally was illegal, everybody should keep away from it.Meanwhile, on a political front, the N Chandrababu Naidu administration, dashed off a letter to the KL Manjunath Commission seeking a report on the inclusion of Kapus in the backward classes category as early as possible. The state government has authorised MROs to issue caste certificates to Kapus in areas where they are recognised as BCs.
