KOCHI: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on Wednesday came out in support of the actor, whose name had been linked to the abduction and molestation of a leading South Indian actor last week.

In a joint statement here on Wednesday, AMMA president Innocent and general secretary Mammootty said the actor was being subjected to a heinous media trial.

“Before the Kerala society has recovered from the shock of the abduction and molestation of the actor, a  heinous media trial is going on against another actor, who is a member of the AMMA.

“The vilification campaign and the media trial against the actor is not on the basis of facts, but hearsay and fabricated allegations.

It is unfortunate the mainstream media has carried these baseless allegations propagated via the social media and some online portals,” the Amma office-bearers said, adding,”We are waiting for the news of the arrest of the culprits, who attacked our sister”.

According to the release, even though the police investigation was under way into the horrendous incident, there was still lack of clarity on the issue and all the perpetrators had not been apprehended.
