THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Launching a probe into the alleged custodial torture of Varappuzha native Sreejith, the Lok Ayukta has issued notices to police officials in connection with the unnatural death.
The Lok Ayukta issued notices based on a complaint by M V Elias of Kunnathunad in Ernakulam. A Division Bench comprising Lok Ayukta Pius C Kuriakose and Upa Lok Ayukta K P Balachandran admitted the complaint and ordered to issue notices to opposite parties, including District Police Chief A V George and police personnel Deepak, Jithinraj, Santhosh Kumar and Sumesh.

The Lok Ayukta ordered to produce all documents related to Sreejith’s arrest. These include orders transferring Deepak, Jithinraj, Santhosh and Sumesh from the AR Camp, their posting orders to Varappuzha police station, orders posting them to the SP’s Squad and the District Collector’s report on Sreejith’s unnatural death. The Lok Ayukta directed to issue summons to the Rural SP to produce these documents.

In addition, the Lok Ayukta ordered to issue summons to the Station House officer, Varappuzha Police, to produce Sreejith’s arrest memo, wound certificate, the case sheet at Cheranelloor Hospital where he was treated, GD Entry at Varappuzha police station from April 6 to 8, the postmortem certificate and the CD consisting of all details related to the criminal case registered in connection with Sreejith’s unnatural death.
