THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dramatic scenes unfolded at the CPI state council meeting held at MN Smarakam over the issue of reinstatement of state secretariat system in the party. In the state council meeting held to elect the new state executive, state secretary Binoy Viswam dramatically proposed that the state leadership intended to reinstate the three-tier system with state secretariat as the apex body, which was revoked when Kanam Rajendran was state secretary.
Usually, it is the state conference that should permit to form a new apex body in the organisation. But in the just-concluded state conference, there was no move to present the idea to the representatives.
On Wednesday, when Binoy proposed the idea, the majority of the newly formed state council objected to the move. Leaders alleged that any such move will be against existing norms. Members also accused leaders such as P P Suneer and P Santhosh Kumar of coming to the top under the shadow of late leader Kanam Rajendran.
However, Binoy told the council that it was necessary to form a state secretariat to move forward. At last the council accepted the proposal.
