CUTTACK: Two more persons fell to swine flu in the State on Monday, taking the toll to 29. One of the victims was from Nuapada district and the other from Jajpur.The person from Jajpur was identified as Ganesh Barik (72) of Mangalpur area. He succumbed at SCBMCH.
"Barik, who was tested positive for H1N1 infection, was undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Bhubaneswar. The H1N1 patient, who was also suffering from high blood pressure, was referred to SCBMCH in very critical condition on August 24 after haemorrhaging of his brain. Barik, who was kept in the ventilator, died of renal failure on Monday," said SCB swine flu Nodal Officer Prof Manoranjan Patnaik.
With this, the total number swine flu death case at SCBMCH this year has increased to 9. Out of total 113 suspected patients admitted in this season, as many as 55 persons have been tested positive for H1N1 infection. Besides, SCBMCH has also received 11 swine flu patients referred from different private hospitals.
So far, 32 swine flu patients have been discharged. As on Monday, as many as 16 H1N1 patients are undergoing treatment at the two special isolated wards.The total number of swine flu patients in the State now stands at 297 which includes five who tested positive on Monday.
The transmission rate appears to be showing a declining trend. Of 24 samples tested on Monday, five were found to be suffering from swine flu.
