Arogya Laxmi to be Extended to Aganwadis

HYDERABAD: Roads and buildings minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has advised officials to seek adequate funds for centrally-sponsored schemes like ICDS and ICPS, and to extend schemes like Sabla and Kishori Shakti Yojana, which aim to improve the health and awareness of adolescent girls, to all districts of the state.

These schemes are currently restricted to Hyderabad, Warangal and Nalgonda districts. Rao, who also holds the portfolio of development of women, children, disabled and senior citizens, held a meeting with senior officials of the departments concerned here on Tuesday.

The minister asked the officials to extend Arogya Lakshmi, a scheme launched on January 1 to provide nutritious food to pregnant and lactating women, to all Anganwadi centres with no scope for complaints. He also asked the officials to ensure supply of fine rice and milk of good quality.

He wanted One Stop Resource Centres started in all districts, preferably at hospitals, to provide medical care, legal counselling and police protection to victims of atrocities, domestic violence and others.

Nageswara Rao also directed that repair of   all dilapidated buildings be taken up and an action plan drawn for improving the infrastructure of Anganwadi centres, buildings and Mahila Pranganams.

He said that all the eligible disabled persons should be covered under all welfare schemes like distribution of aids and provision of housing.
