ISLAMABAD: The first-ever visit of new Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to India has been most successful with New Delhi seeming willing to talk on several issues it has been evading for long, said senior Pakistani diplomats in India.

"It is a major achievement of Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar that the Indian side expressed agreement on several issues they had been avoiding discussions on for years," said a diplomat posted at the Pakistan High Commission and privy to the talks between Khar and Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna in New Delhi Wednesday, according to a front page article in the Urdu daily Jang.

"The Indians agreed to avoid opaque language, demonstrated - for the first time - a willingness to engage in talks to settle Kashmir issues, some agreement appeared on Kargil and other military issues, and most importantly, India did not target the ISI, and both governments agreed to scale up intelligence links," the source said.

According to diplomatic sources, Khar's visit to Jama Masjid was cancelled because of security clearances not being received but the Naib Imam called on her at the high commission. She also met some prominent leaders at a reception organised for her.
