THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A collective of film personalities has criticised the AMMA office-bearers and people’s representatives in the organisation for their anti-woman stand.

The joint statement issued by 100 personalities, including director Aashiq Abu, Padmapriya and Parvathy, said they had unstinting support for the sexually abused actress.

The statement said the actress was not a victim but a heroic woman and a model survivor. The AMMA did not take any step on an earlier complaint given by the actress against the actor who is involved in the attack.

“Later when the actress was attacked and the police found the actor guilty of the crime, the organisation hesitantly ousted him. But the decision to reinstate him shows that the decision to expel him was just an eye wash,” said the statement.

The signatories congratulated the actresses who quit the organisation in protest against the office-bearers who further insulted the victim and those who support her.

“The people’s representatives who continue in the organisation are justifying the organisation’s anti-woman stand. If they are against it, they should abstain from the organisation to uphold democratic values,” the statement said.

They urged the government and the film organisations to help create an atmosphere to conduct cinema work breaking the divisions of vested interests, caste and gender. The signatories include directors Dileesh Pothan, Venu, Vidhu Vincent,  editor Bina Paul Venugopal and actress Revathi.
