NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has registered an FIR over the alleged unauthorised entry of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with their supporters, into the Akashvani Bhavan premises during an INDIA bloc protest on Tuesday, officials said.

According to the police, the case was lodged after a complaint was received alleging that the protesters entered the Akashvani office complex without permission.

On Tuesday, the INDIA bloc march to the Nirvachan Sadan against the administrative outreach charge of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar became a sit-in at Akashvani Bhavan within minutes of starting and ended in a rough detention of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, among others.

The march started at 10 am, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress leaders Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O'Brien and CPM MP John Brittas leading it along with Rahul and Priyanka.

The Delhi Police checkmated the Opposition leaders with the huge presence of its heavily armoured personnel, as it detained the leaders and pushed them into buses. However, before that, Rahul had made a visual statement by climbing a barricade and waiving the national flag the police brass, feeling confident in the sea of the yellow of shoulder-high barricades, sensed an easy victory when Rahul and Priyanka bundled into buses.

Police said that no application seeking permission for the proposed march had been submitted to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi district. Accordingly, no permission had been granted for the proposed march.

In view of the proposed gathering and the possibility of violation of the prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the New Delhi area, necessary security arrangements were made to maintain law and order, regulate the movement of the crowd, and prevent any untoward incident, they said.

According to the police, the march commenced at around 10:30 am. The protesters broke through the first barricade erected by the police and proceeded towards the second barricade installed near NITI Aayog.

The police repeatedly made announcements informing the protesters about the restrictions imposed under Section 163 of the BNSS and appealed to them to disperse peacefully. Despite this, the protesters did not comply with the directions of the police and continued to remain at the spot.
