COVID-19 HIGHLIGHTS | 2 SpiceJet passengers travelling to Guwahati from Ahmedabad test positive

Health Ministry however has said the recovery rate for COVID-19 cases in the country has seen an upwards trend and is better than many other countries, while the fatality has fallen further.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country crossed the 1.5 lakh mark on Thursday with 6387 persons testing positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours

According to the Health Ministry data, a total of 1,51,767 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 till date. 83,004 of these are active cases while 64,426 persons have recovered from the infection.

170 deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours taking the total death toll to 4337.

Some experts have flagged an urgent need for more intense surveillance and monitoring in areas where migrants have returned to contain the outbreak and warned that their tallies may go up due to resumption of domestic flights on top of the special trains and flights.

Five more localities declared as containment zones in Delhi

Five more localities in Delhi were declared as coronavirus containment zones on Wednesday, taking the total number of such zones to 96 in the national capital. Fresh COVID-19 positive cases were reported from three pockets in east Delhi and two in south Delhi following which they were declared as containment zones by authorities, a senior Delhi government official said.

Odisha's COVID-19 recovery rate crosses 50 per cent mark

Seventy-six people tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha on Wednesday, taking the number of cases to 1,593, a Health Department official said. Of the fresh cases, 74 people returned to Odisha from other states like Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, and were lodged at different quarantine centres.

40 hurt as people demanding lifting of containment order turn violent in Odisha

Union Health Ministry briefs the media over COVID19

  • Union Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal informs that a total of 60,490 patients have recovered so far from COVID-19. Recovery rate continues to improve and presently it is 41.61%. The fatality rate is one among the lowest in the world, it is 2.87% now.
  • The testings have gone up in the last few months. 1.1 lakh samples are tested daily: ICMR
  • 4.4 deaths per lakh population have been reported for the world, while India has reported about 0.3 deaths per lakh population, which is amongst the lowest in the world. This has been due to lockdown, timely identification and management of COVID19 cases.
  • Pangolin rescued from quarantine centre in Odisha to undergo COVID-19 test

    The five-year-old was rescued by a team of Athagarh Forest division from the quarantine facility at Mahulia UGME school in the Baramba range. How the scaly ant-eater ended up at the quarantine facility is yet to be ascertained. Divisional Forest Officer Sasmita Lenka said, acting on the information from the local sarpanch, her team reached the quarantine centre and rescued the pangolin.
