As expected, Telugu Desam Party leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was on Friday forcibly evicted by the Delhi Police from Andhra Bhavan premises here and shifted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

He refused to break fast even in the hospital, unlike his political opponent Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who was administered fluids in a Hyderabad hospital recently. With Naidu continuing his fast, the TDP MLAS and MPs are preparing to undertake fast at Jantar Mantar on Saturday. A team of doctors comprising a cardiologist, two physicians and four resident doctors are monitoring the TDP chief’s condition.

“Chandrababu Naidu has been admitted in the hospital’s VIP block room no 6. His condition is stable, except that the level of ketones has increased in urine. We tried giving him intravenous DNS and vitamins, but he refused saying that he wants to continue the fast,” said Dr H K Kar, Medical Superintendent at RML Hospital.

Earlier in the day, Andhra Bhavan witnessed high drama and tension as the TDP workers attempted to block the Delhi Police personnel from evicting their leader.

Senior police officers tried to reason with Naidu, who finally agreed and then proceeded towards the ambulance that was at the venue since morning along with a team of doctors from the RML Hospital.

As the TDP workers prevented the Delhi Police from doing their work, the police dispersed them. Even then, some protesters blocked the way waving flags and shouting slogans. Some continued to stay put in front of the ambulance.

During the one-hour chaos, the TDP workers vandalised the place, shouting slogans against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, burning her in effigy and hurling slippers at banners of Sonia and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Naidu’s son Lokesh and MPs also accompanied him to the hospital in the ambulance. He had lost four kg in the last five days.

Meanwhile, the BJP on Friday asked TDP president Chandrababu Naidu to call off his fast so that normalcy is restored in Andhra Pradesh.
