Sri Lanka, TN Release More Fishermen

Ahead of the January 27 talks in Chennai, the mutual release of fishermen by the Governments of TN and Sri Lanka continued on Friday.

While a Sri Lankan court at Kaytes released four fishermen on January 23 and 40 fishermen and nine boats on Friday, the TN government released 18 Sri Lankan fishermen and three boats.

Due to the consistent efforts of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, so far 255 TN fishermen, 22 fishermen from Karaikal and 39 boats have been released, an official release here said. It added that 71 fishermen and 15 fishing boats released by Mannar court would be arriving at Karaikal on Friday night.

Similarly, 111 Tamil Nadu fishermen and their 15 boats released by Trincomalee court would be arriving at Karaikal on Saturday.
