Hyundai Launches Xcent, to Compete with Dzire, Amaze

India’s second largest car maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Tuesday unveiled its world class compact sedan Xcent, marking its entry into high growth B segment.

The new offering will be compete with other B segment cars including Swift Dezire, Honda Amaze, and the to be launched Ford Figo Concept.

“The Xcent is a world class product developed for the Indian market...Xcent symbolises Hyundai’s commitment to Indian customers by offering high standards of quality,” HMIL Managing Director and CEO BS Seo told reporters at the launch of Hyundai’s new offering.

Xcent would be available in two engine options—petrol and diesel.

Expected to hit the market by March this year, this new model is among the four new models that the company plans to launch in the next two years, including a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), to enhance its position in the market.

The compact sedan segment is currently one of the fastest growing segments in Indian auto market. On Monday, Tata Motors and Ford also unveiled cars to cater to the segment.

“With the Xcent, we are entering one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian car market. Last year, the compact sedan segment grew by 39 per cent at about 24,000 units a month. We want to be a significant player in this segment,” HMIL Senior Vice President Rakesh Srivastava said.

Hyundai has a 15 per cent share of the Indian car market.
