Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called on Governor H R Bhardwaj on Thursday and briefed him on several issues, including some controversial ones.

Though Siddaramaiah termed it just a courtesy call, sources said Bhardwaj had raised many concerns, such as lax drought relief even after the Election Commission had relaxed the poll code of conduct.

Siddaramaiah reportedly explained that his government had released `100 crore in special grants for drinking water.

They also discussed the controversy between the political executive and the bureaucracy over the constitution of the Civil Services Board and nominations for the Legislative  Council.

Bhardwaj is said to have remarked that the controversy would not have erupted had the ministers displayed administrative acumen.

For the Legislative Council nominations, the names of litterateur Maralusiddappa and former Karnataka Book Authority chairman S G Siddaramaiah came up for discussion.

Some reports said the Governor expressed his disapproval when Jnanpith awardee U R Ananthamurthy’s name came up during the meeting.

But government sources strongly denied it, saying Ananthamurthy was not in the reckoning at all.
