A committee headed by Additional Director General of Police (CID) Bipin Gopalakrishna has been constituted to deliberate on security aspects at six jails across the state, Home Minister K J George said.

He said the committee was visiting Bellary, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Dharwad, Tumkur and Mysore jails. It will submit a report within three weeks and based on this the government will take steps to improve security, he said.

George said introducing biometric system, putting up watch towers and scanning machine are some of the measures to be implemented in these jails.

A committee, headed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Pattanayak, formed to look into the escape of psycho rapist Jaishankar, is expected to submit its report soon.

The committee, if needed, will also interrogate Jaishankar to find out the alleged involvement of Parappana Agrahara jail staff from where the convict escaped.

George said that Union minister of State for home will open coastal police stations at Malpe and Hejmadi in Dakshina Kannada district on September 20.
