State awards for scientists, engineers

The State awards for scientists and engineers for the year 2011 have been announced.

A committee headed by Prof C N R Rao has selected the winners for the awards.

The awards are given away by the state government. The list of award winners is as follows:

Sir M Visvesvaraya Award for senior scientists (Rs 1 lakh cash prize) - Prof Raghavendra Gadagkar of Centre for Ecological Sciences,IISc,  Professor K Muniyappa of Biochemistry Department, IISc and Prof K Sidappa, Director, JSS Foundation for Science and Society.

Dr Raja Ramanna State Award (`75,000 cash prize) - Dr G K Narayana Reddy, former VC, Karnatak University, Dr S M Shivaprasad of International Centre for Materials Science and Dr K Byrappa, Prof in the Department of Studies in Earth Science, University of Mysore.

Sir C V Raman Award for young scientists (`50,000 cash prize) - Dr Mohammed Hussain K Rabinal, Associate Professor of Department of Physics, Karnatak University, Dr Michael Rajamathi, Associate Professor of Chemistry, St Joseph’s College, Dr J Seetharamappa, Professor of Chemistry, Karnatak University, Dr Y C Janardhan Reddy, Psychiatry Department, NIMHANS and Dr  Riaz Mahmood, Professor of Biotechnology, Kuvempu University.

Satish Dhawan Young Engineers Awards (Rs 50,000 cash prize) - Dr Subhash C Yaragal, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology and Dr K Balakrishna, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology.

Kalpana Chawla Young Women Scientist Awards (Rs 50,000 cash prize) - Dr Sharada Srinivasan, Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies and Dr Shubha Gopal, Chairperson of Department of Studies in Microbiology, University of Mysore.
