Justice C Nagappan of the Madras High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. He would take oath of office on February 27.

Born on October 4, 1951, Justice Nagappan enrolled as an Advocate in 1974, practised as a junior under former Attorney General of India K Parasaran in the High Court. He also worked as a part-time professor in Madras Law College for seven years.

Justice Nagappan was appointed District Judge in 1987 and worked as District and Sessions Judge at Cuddalore, Salem, Coimbatore. He also served as Special Officer, Vigilance Cell, Madras High Court and held positions as the Chairman, State Transport Appellate Tribunal, Chennai.

Justice Nagappan was appointed as the Additional Judge, Madras High Court, on September 27, 2000 and became permanent Judge on September 20, 2002. He was the senior-most judge of the Madras High Court prior to his appointment as the Chief Justice.
