India on Friday added 44,878 fresh cases to its COVID-19 tally and 547 deaths to its toll, as per the data shared by the Union Health Ministry.
With this addition of fresh cases, the case-load in India surged to 87,28,795 while the toll reached 1,28,68.
Meanwhile, the total active cases in the country are 4,84,547 after a decrease of 4,747 in the last 24 hours and total cured cases are 81,15,580 with 49,079 new discharges.
The National Capital of Delhi has come under the radar again due to its high COVID-19 cases and also reporting over 100 COVID-19 deaths for the first time.
Bihar's COVID-19 tally rose to 2,26,080 as 581 more people tested positive for the infection, while seven fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,174, a health department bulletin said on Friday.
Delhi recorded 7,802 fresh COVID-19 cases in a day taking the infection tally in the national capital to over 4.74 lakh on Friday, while 91 more fatalities during the same period pushed the death toll to 7,423, authorities said.
Himachal Pradesh reported 11 more COVID-19 fatalities taking the death toll in the state on Friday to 417, while 825 new cases pushed the infection tally to 29,009. Of the fresh fatalities, three were reported from Shimla, two from Kullu and one each from Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Bilaspur, Lahaul-Spiti and Hamirpur, according to the state health department data.
Nagaland on Friday reported its highest COVID-19 recovery rate of 90.93 per cent as 81 patients recuperated from the disease, while 23 fresh cases pushed the state's tally to 9,638, a health department official said.
Ahmedabad in Gujarat reported 219 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking its count to 44,909, while three patients died and 185 people were discharged from hospitals, an official said on Friday.
Maharashtra recorded 4,132 new coronavirus cases on Friday, which took the case tally to 17,40,461, the state health department said. With 127 fatalities, COVID-19 death toll in the state reached 45,809, it added.
Karnataka continued to show sharp decline in new coronavirus cases with 2,016 fresh infections and 17 deaths, taking the tally and cumulative fatalities to 8,57,928 and 11,491 respectively on Friday, the health department said.
Punjab reported 17 more COVID-19 fatalities on Friday, taking the death toll to 4,428, while 738 new cases took the state's infection tally to 1,40,605. There are 5,771 active cases of the disease in the state at present, according to an official bulletin issued here.
Haryana on Friday reported 2,688 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the state's caseload to 1,95,799, while 27 more deaths pushed the toll to 2,006. Hisar recorded its highest single-day toll at 10, while four deaths were reported from Rewari district.
Rajasthan reported 12 more COVID-19 fatalities on Friday, taking the death toll to 2,044, while 2,144 new cases pushed the state's infection tally to 2,21,471. According to a Health department bulletin issued here, 17,657 patients are undergoing treatment for the disease in the state at present.
Twenty-five more people died due to COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, while 2,183 fresh cases were reported, taking the state's infection count to 5,07,602. As many as 4,77,180 people have recovered from the infection and the number of active cases stands at 23,095, a health bulletin said.
Cultural programmes as part of Diwali celebrations will not be held inside jails in the national capital this year owing to restrictions imposed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, officials said. However, candles will be lit inside the jails and inmates will be provided special diets, officials said.

The tally of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai's Dharavi area increased to 3,615 on Friday with four new cases coming to light, a civic official said. The slum-dominated area had reported three new infections on Thursday. As many as 3,272 patients have recovered so far while there are 32 active COVID-19 cases in the area.

Puducherry reported 75 fresh coronavirus cases while a 68-year old woman succumbed to the infection taking the toll in the union territory to 608, a top Health department official said on Friday.
