NMDC Iron Ore Output Up 37% in Dec Quarter

National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) said its production of iron ore for the quarter ended December, 2013 increased by 37% at 7.3 million tonnes over the same quarter last year. It registered a production of 5.3 mt last year.

According to the company, dispatches registered a whopping 40 per cent rise at 7.4 mt during the third quarter of the current fiscal as against 5.3 mt in the corresponding period a year ago.

With this, the total production of NMDC this fiscal up to December, 2013 stood at 20.3 mt and dispatches at 21.24 mt.

“The company is geared up to not only sustain the uptrend in production but also improve its performance further in the fourth quarter to meet the rising demand of steel industry,” said C S Verma, CMD of NMDC.

In December it added 2.8 mt of iron ore production and 2.7 mt of dispatches.

It may be noted that the company has a total output capacity of 32 mt per annum at its mines in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.
