What a billion faces look like

Ever wondered how many users are actually there on Facebook and who may have been the first Facebook profile? Well, freelance creative technologist Natalia Rojas took up the project Faces of Facebook and has coded everybody’s profile onto one page, making it look like TV static.

With more the 1.2 billion users on the popular social networking site, the app lists all users in chronological order, i.e., in the order that they signed up with the site, and this also includes you (if you have a Facebook profile, and in this day and age who doesn’t?). Now before you get panicky about your profile being hacked or anything similar, Rojas assures us that she isn’t breaking any privacy laws or safeguards as “the site doesn’t store anyone’s private information, photographs or names.”

Listed in order from the top left to the bottom right, you’ll see the site’s first user, creator Mark Zuckerberg of course, along with the rest of his team including co-founder Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz.

While on the site, a number listing the total number of profiles shows up with a rapidly increasing last digit, indicating new profiles being created as you browse the site. You can zoom on the colourful mess and see a grid of profile pictures emerge. One can click on a particular box and it will link you to the owner’s profile page on the site. If you don’t have the patience to find yourself or your friends and family in the static, then a tool on the upper right corner will let you connect via Facebook to find who you’re looking for among the billion and more boxes.
