In a slight reduction in cases, India on Monday recorded 55,722 cases of virus infection and 579 deaths taking the country's tally past 75,00,000 lakh-mark.

School Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto was on Monday shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Chennai by an air ambulance following the deterioration in his health conditions.
The minister, who was tested positive for Covid-19 on September 28 and was admitted to a hospital in Ranchi, had been on the ventilator since Sunday.
The department of orthopedics at KIMS hospital in Hubballi has treated 546 patients, including 25 infected by COVID-19, during the pandemic. Even during the lockdown, the hospital continued to treat orthopedic patients.
KIMS, which is called the lifeline of North Karnataka, is one of the important hospitals in the region and all kinds of patients visit it for treatment from neighbouring districts. The orthopedic department usually gets around 1400 patients in six months, but this time due to the lockdown and pandemic, it received only 546.

Haryana reported no coronavirus-related death on Sunday, the state's first zero COVID-19 fatality day in four-and-a-half months, but its caseload increased by 952, officials said.
