Tension at Poonthura, five policemen injured

Five policemen, including a Sub-Inspector,  suffered minor injuries while they were trying to defuse a communal tension at Moonnattumukku and Edayar areas under the Poonthura police station limits on Friday.

The tension increased in the area following  a clash between two groups of people on Friday evening. Poonthura police told Express that personal differences resulted in the situation which ultimately led to communal tension in the area.

 Strong posse of police   rushed to the spot to prevent violence spreading to other areas.

Police said five policemen, including Poonthura Sub- Inspector Ashok Kumar, sustained minor injuries in the incident. Police said now the situation was under control. A strong police posse under City Police commissioner P Vijayan has been deployed in the areas to check the clashes.
