THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has issued Request for Proposal documents to the 12 companies that were shortlisted as potential private partners for the Rs 6,000-crore Vizhinjam International Multi-Purpose Seaport project.

This follows a Cabinet approval given on Wednesday for a Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd decision to shortlist 12 of the 14 companies that had submitted bids for this project.

The companies now have two months to submit their final offers for the project.

Meanwhile, it is understood that the State Government may seek an exemption for procedures related to the Vizhinjam project from the Election Code of Conduct that is likely to come into effect in the first week of March. The Election Commission had exempted the project during the local body elections following a State Government request. The State Government is also moving ahead with its plans to issue the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) bids for construction of the port.
