The United Kingdom will honour Indian soldiers, who participated in World War-I (WW-I) as part of British India, through a series of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the war.

The British High Commission in India, along with the Delhi-based United Service Institute of India, would hold events to remember the WW-I that began in 1914, in which about 10-lakh Indian soldiers had fought on behalf of the British empire.

“One million Indian soldiers fought the war and over 70,000 Indian servicemen died. We intend to honour their memory this year with a series of events,” UK High Commissioner to India James Bevan told reporters here on Friday.
