A fortnight after the shootout in Gulbarga, the Crime Investigation Department has commenced its probe on Thursday.

A team of CID sleuths, led by DIG Soumendu Mukherjee, arrived in Gulbarga and recorded the statements of personnel of Roza police station till late Friday night.

On Friday morning, the team recorded the statements of all the officials who were involved in the incident that took place in Roza station limits on January 8 in which notorious criminal Munna was killed.

PSI of Station Bazaar police station Mallikarjun Bande, who was injured in the encounter, succumbed to bullet injuries later.

The CID team comprising of Mukherjee, SP Srigouri and DSPs Satish Chitgubbi, Gopalkrishna and Pandurang visited the residence of Bande. The team recorded the statement of Bande’s wife Mallamma.  The CID is video-recording the statements of all those connected with the case.

On whether the CID would question IGP Mohammed Wazir Ahmed as Bande’s wife had made allegations against him, Mukherjee said his team would take statements from all those connected to the encounter.

He also said that no time frame has been fixed to complete the investigation. According to CID sources, the government has instructed the CID DGP Bipin Gopal Krishna to supervise the investigation personally.

The sources added that the CID may submit its preliminary report to the government within the next two weeks.
