With elections fast approaching, the JD(S) seems to be sharpening its tools. On Thursday, the party roped in its former MLC Abdul Azeem and asked its minority leaders to shed differences and work unitedly.

This move is seen as an effort to further consolidate its share of minority votes, particularly those belonging to the Muslim community. Azeem had resigned from JD(S) after being denied a ticket to the Upper House.

Addressing a gathering, former chief minister and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy urged leaders to work with confidence and stay together to bring the party back to power.

Asking party workers not to be demoralised by media surveys and predictions, he pointed out how such surveys in the past had gone wrong.

Stating that the JD(S) too had its own independent survey done in all taluks in the state, Kumaraswamy said that he, however, didn’t want to get publicity out of such a survey report. Earlier, Gowda welcomed Azeem back to the party.
