The curtains went up for the four-day Ernakulam Revenue District school youth festival here on Monday.

The cultural fiesta commenced with offstage items at different venues at St Augustine’s HSS, Muvattupuzha and MG University BEd Centre. 

Literary competitions such as story writing, essay writing were held besides the usual pencil drawing and poster designing contests in all the three categories from morning.

Apart from holding nearly 91 items under writing, band contest for high school and higher secondary students were also conducted.

Competitions in around 95 items, including skit, mimicry, classical music, ‘chavittunadakam’, ‘vattappattu’, ‘kathaprasangam apart from dance events such as folk dance, ‘thiruvathirakkali’, ‘ottamthullal’, ‘kathakali and, ‘kuchipudi’, will add colour to the festival on Tuesday.

Events like drama for high school and higher secondary, group dance (folk), mohiniyattom, ‘daffumuttu’, ‘chakyarkoothu’ will be staged on the third day of the festival. Folk items like ‘nadanppattu’, ‘mappilappattu’ ‘poorakkali’ and ‘koodiyattam’ will be held on January 9, the final day of the event.

The results will be available on the website- www.ddeernakulam. Arrangements  have been made to post the results as soon as they are declared.

A mess was opened at Nirmala HSS for serving food for those participating. Arrangements have been made to serve food for about 3,000 persons per day.

Union Minister of Food and Civil Supplies  K V Thomas will formally inaugurate the youth festival at a function at the Municipal town hall at 3 pm on Tuesday. Before that a cultural procession will be taken out from Model HSS at 2 pm. 

Events Today

Folk Dance(boys and girls) in all categories will be held at Town hall(stage 1)  from 9 am and ‘chavittunadakam’ for HSS and HS will be staged at Nirmala HS (stage 2) in the morning. Skit English (HSS) will be held at the same venue at 3 pm.

Nirmala HSS hall (stage 3) will be the venue for story telling (UP) contest to be held at 9 am followed by essay writing (UP) competition to be held at 10 am after which elocution (UP - boys and girls) will be held. Kuchipudi will be held in the morning  at Nirmala Junior School open stage (stage 4) for UP,HS and HSS (boys and girls) from 9 am.   Nirmala Junior School Hall (stage 5) will be the venue for recitation and elocution (English), to be held from 9 am for all categories.     

Essay writing for UP will be held at Model School open stage (stage 6) at 11 am. Quran recitation (UP and HS) will be held at 9 am. Story telling (UP) will be held at 12 noon and  ‘mushaira’ (HS) at 1 pm.

Model VHSE hall (stage 8) will be the venue for Malayalam recitation and elocution to be held 9 am for UP HS and HSS. 

‘Vattappat’ (HS and HSS) and ‘oppana’ (UP, HS and HSS) will be staged at SAHSS open stage from the morning. ‘Thiruvathirakkali’ will be held at SAHSS auditorium (stage 10) for UP,HS and HSS from 9 am.

Classical music (UP, HS and HSS Boys and girls) will be held at SAHSS Plus-One classroom (stage 11), recitation Hindi and Hindi elocution for all categories at SAHSS Plus-Two classroom (stage 12).  

‘Kathaprasangam’, ‘ottamthullal’, mimicry, mono act under all categories will be staged at LFLP School Hall (stage 13), MG University BEd Centre hall (state 14) and Town UPS hall (stage 15) respectively in the morning.

SNDP HSS hall will be the venue for ‘kathakali’ in all categories. Light music and ‘bharathanatyam’ will be held at SNDP Hall (stage 17)and SNDP BEd College auditorium (Stage 18) on the day from 9 am.
