Coming down heavily on state government officials, the Kerala High Court on Thursday orally observed that the Chief Minister had to go to the people with the mass contact programme only because the government staff are not doing their duty at all. The court also observed that the officials should at least have some commitment towards their work.

The Bench, however, observed that the programme is beneficial for the public.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice Babu Mathew P Joseph made the observation when a petition by Surendran against the transfer of a librarian at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Thiruvananthapuram was taken up for consideration.

During the argument of the case, the court observed that the attitude of several government officials should change and they need to show some gratitude for the salary they get.
