In a whirlwind tour to Cuttack district, BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Thursday addressed two public meetings in Salepur and Niali Assembly segments.

Addressing the gathering at Gopinathpur in Salepur block, Naveen said the BJD Government was fighting for Vikash (development) and Swabhiman (self-Respect) of the State. He called upon people to vote for Prasant Behera, the BJD candidate for Salepur seat and Baijayant Panda, Kendrapara Lok Sabha candidate.

Recalling the havoc caused by 1999 super cyclone and subsequent mismanagement of the situation by the then ruling Congress Government in the State, Naveen said the United Nation has appreciated the efforts of BJD Government in battling the cyclonic storm Phailin that hit the State last year.

The BJD has prioritised development of villages in its manifesto and every kuchha house in rural areas would be made pucca, Naveen said. Several developmental schemes like provision of drinking water, electricity, concrete roads and other facilities have been implemented successfully by the BJD Government in rural areas. Provision of rice at `1 per kg and health insurance to farmers are the ruling party’s efforts to provide food and health security to the people of the State. The developmental process will continue if BJD is voted back to power, he added.

In Niali, Naveen canvassed for party candidate Pramod Mallik and Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha candidate Kulamani Samal.
